Parent Setup Checklist
Print this page or keep it open while you set up. Every box should be checkable in about 15 minutes. The last section is the part most parents skip and later wish they had not.
Before installing
- ☐ I told my child NestPatrol is going on their phone, and what it does.
- ☐ We looked at the “What’s shared” screen together so they know what I can see.
- ☐ Both phones are charged and on the internet.
Connection
- ☐ Parent App installed (or app.nestpatrol.com bookmarked).
- ☐ Child added with the correct birth year. The birth year controls which crisis resources they see.
- ☐ Kids App installed on the child’s phone and enrolled with the code.
- ☐ The child’s phone shows “Connected” with the right child’s name.
Permissions on the child’s phone
- ☐ Usage Access: ON (required)
- ☐ Accessibility: ON (required)
- ☐ Device Admin: ON (required)
- ☐ The shield says “You’re protected”
- ☐ Location: allowed all the time (recommended)
- ☐ Notifications: allowed (recommended)
- ☐ Battery optimization: exempted (recommended)
- ☐ Contacts & call protection: ON (recommended)
Rules
- ☐ Daily screen-time limit set
- ☐ Bedtime window set
- ☐ Emergency contacts added (they appear in the child’s phone and on the Help screen)
The tests most parents skip
- ☐ Web filter test: an adult site fails to load, including in incognito mode.
- ☐ SOS test: my child sent a test SOS, I received it with their location, and I marked them safe. My child knows the button is for real trouble, and knows it is not 911.
- ☐ Contacts test: the dashboard’s Contacts & Calls page shows their contact list.
- ☐ Message test: my child sent “test” from Chat and I replied.
- ☐ Approval test: my child requested extra time and I saw it arrive.
